CARVED BENCH

Victor Giannotta emotionally invites each branch to take a seat at his table. Like the individuals of a talkative and complex family, the characters he sculpts become bowls, leaves, seats or mobiles. Whatever their function, they must be alive and pay homage to the tree they once were. The wood becomes soft under Victor's tools. Influenced by a trip to Japan, he strives to make each of his gestures sensitive and to pay particular attention to each object. The tools he uses are archaic, with a perfectly mastered function that matches the gesture: measured and precise. All his work invites us to take shape and poetically inhabit our home, our being and our world.
